Group Sum and Shearwall/Corewall Forces using Finite Element Shells
ProtaStructure utilizes the Group-Sum methodology to calculate the total responses at the top and bottom of the shear walls modeled with Finite Element (FE) shell elements. This document provides clearance and verification of shear walls modeled with the FE shell elements, under various loading types.
We present this design guide to your attention with the hope that it will be useful. You can find the guide as a PDF file in the attachments.

Working with Walls
Defining a New Wall Before inserting a wall member its reference axes must be defined. Walls are defined by two axis intersection points (insertion points) defining the start "I" and end "J" of the member. Hence for wall, 3 axes are needed for create ...

Options to be used in analysis can be specified in “Model Options” page of “Building Analysis” form. “Model Options” comprises of four tab pages namely, Model, Shear Wall Model, Slab Model, and Settings. Any modifications made in this page can be ...
Analytical Model
Physical Model vs Analytical Model The 3D model you built is a physical model with actual member size rendered visually. The analysis converts the physical model into the analytical model (as shown below). The analytical model is essentially a ...
One-Way Slabs with Orthotropic Shell Elements
Normally, a regular isotropic slab will exhibit a two-way behavior when analyzed with finite elements. This is usually sufficient for cast-in-place RC slabs. However, when it comes to one-way prefabricated, pretensioned or hollow core slabs, the ...
Finite Elements Floor Analysis
With FE Floor Analysis, you can analyze and design floors under vertical loads only independently from the global 3D building analysis. In this approach, the floor is isolated from the building and only gravity and imposed loads are applied. This ...
